"The Blessings of Reiki in the Modern World"

It is relatively well-known in the Reiki world that Hawayo Takata, the woman who brought Reiki out of Japan, was born in Hawaii and that she and her teacher, Hayashi Chūjirō, taught together in the Hawaiian Islands in 1937 and 1938 before he gave her her full certification as a Reiki Master in February 1938. However, until recently, very little else was known about the early period of Takata-sensei's teaching career, which was largely conducted within Hawaii's large Japanese American community.

In this talk, Justin explains the important changes that occurred in this crucial period of Reiki history spanning the period of the Pacific War, which pitted America against Japan and saw tremendous discrimination against Japanese Americans. This presentation is based on years of original research, including archival work as well as numerous interviews with elders who studied under Mrs. Takata in the 1930s and 40s.

Children don’t sit still at the best of times so what happens when you have been asked to assist a child with either a treatment session or in a class. And what will you do if that child has special needs? In this presentation Kathy Fee will talk about children in general, and Special Needs Children.

Kathy Fee is a Reiki Master Teacher with over thirty years of experience in childhood education. She will share from her vast knowledge to help practitioners think outside the box when treating and teaching any child. For children with special needs, such as autism, Kathy will outline the daily challenges they face and address some of the side issues many of us have never considered, showing you how Reiki can make life a little easier for them. Kathy will discuss how a Reiki Practitioner can work around their special needs – such as setting up an environment in which children will feel comfortable. In addition, Kathy addresses the challenges that parents face and shows how the Reiki Practitioner can help them too.

By sharing the testimonials of parents and practitioners who have witnessed the benefits of Reiki in their own children, and the children they have treated, Kathy will give you the courage to reach out to any child with Reiki.

"The Business of Reiki: Keys to Success"

9:30 am Justin B. Stein

"Between 'East' and 'West' - Usui Reiki Ryoho in Hawaii in the 1930s and 40s"

When Lidia started her professional Reiki practice over 19 years ago, the idea of earning a living from offering reiki services full time seemed idealistic and not reasonable. But Lidia followed her heart, and despite initial challenges such as difficulty finding insurance and other professional practitioners, Lidia continued on and has had a busy, thriving, reiki practice. Lidia shares reiki with a vast array of clients, from those who are interested in their own personal growth and self-development, to those who are diagnosed with serious health conditions including working with clients with advanced cancer.

Lidia will share her story, experiences and insights that have come over the years. Whether you would like to practice professionally or as a hobby, Lidia will offer strategies that will help in sharing your Reiki passion in the most professional way. New practitioners will hear what they can expect in starting a practice, insurance issues, marketing, and suggested business models. All practitioners will learn or be reminded about the emotional aspects of offering Reiki to others and how to separate your need for money energetically from the needs of the client.

There is always benefit from sharing and hearing the experiences of those around us and this presentation from Lidia will be of value to all levels of practitioners.
